CARE FOR YOUR NAPPIES SO THAT THEY CAN LAST AND LAST...

WASHING CARE:

Bamboo Fabric

Bamboo Fabric becomes more absorbent with washes. Because bamboo fibers are initially prone to snagging, you might want to wash the nappy inside a bag (see Mother Nature laundry bag), but this isn't necessary. Trim any snags with scissors.

1. Wash once before use to increase the absorbency
2. Wash using a non-chlorine-based product (no bleach). For example use Sunlight Baby, Triple Orange, EcoSoft, Mother Nature laundry bar; or Sunlight soap. Always ensure that the washing powder/ cleaning agents used are safe on your baby’s skin to avoid irritation and are safe on the nappies.
3. Wash at 50-60°C
4. Line dry (preferable) or tumble dry

DON'TS:

  • Do not use bleach, vinegar, or products with oxygenated bleach, as it corrodes the bamboo.
  • Do not use a fabric softener as it can clog the fibers and make them less absorbent. Rather put a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in your soak bucket (natural softener).
  • Do not dry-clean or iron

TIP: Consistent hot washing and tumble-drying can cause hardness and some shrinkage. Add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (soda-bic) in your soak bucket as a natural softener. Great for hard water areas as it will help extend the life of the nappy.

Bamboo All-InThree Cloth Nappy

1. Wash the bamboo inner pad once before use to increase the absorbency.
2. If using a flushable liner, flush the soiled liner in the loo.
3. Rinse off all excess solid matter from the nappy very well (eg. hold under the flush of the toilet or with a hose into a bucket and wear gloves if necessary).
4. Stain removing tip: rub the laundry bar onto the stain, then make a bucket of warm soapy water and pre-soak.
5. TWO BUCKET SYSTEM: Once used, store wet only nappies in a dry lidded bucket until washed (not recommended to leave for more than two days). Add 5 drops of tea tree oil to scent the bucket. Pre-soak soiled nappies in a second wet bucket (see one bucket system).
6. ONE BUCKET SYSTEM: Pre-soak all your nappies prior to washing in a non-chlorine-based solution. We suggest 5 drops of tea tree oil to a bucket of water as a natural antiseptic soak solution or a tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).
7. Separate the bamboo inner pad and laminated nappy cover.
8. Warm wash Bamboo Inner Pad at 50-60°C
9. Cool wash Cover at 30°C.
10. Wash using a non-chlorine-based product (no bleach). For example use Sunlight Baby, Triple Orange, Eco-Soft, Woolworth’s Woolite, Earth Sap, Mother Nature laundry bar, or Sunlight soap or bio-wash ball. Always ensure that the washing powder/ cleaning agents used are safe on your baby’s skin to avoid irritation and are safe on the nappies.
11. Line dry (preferable) or tumble dry Bamboo inner pad.
12. Do not tumble-dry the outer cover.
13. Do not iron or dry-clean.

TIP:

  • Use a nappy liner to avoid badly staining the nappies.
  • Wash in the evening, hang up to dry overnight and then line dry the next day.
  • Try a second spin cycle to squeeze out the excess water.
  • In winter, use a local laundrette for drying the Bamboo inner pad.

GREEN LAUNDRY TIPS

1. Use an energy-efficient washing machine (check AA ratings).
2. Wash soiled nappies at no higher than 60C to avoid using more energy.
3. Wash wet nappies and covers along with the rest of your laundry to avoid separate use of water.
4. Avoid tumble-drying (use the sun’s energy!)
5. Only soak or rinse badly soiled nappies to avoid using more water.
6. Use an eco-detergent (e.g. Sunlight Baby and Triple Orange).
7. If possible, extend the life cycle of your nappies and re-use them on your next child or give or sell to someone else.
8. Use washable nappy liners or re-wash our flushable liners before they start to break up. Cut your flushable liner in half for smaller babies.
9. Recycle your grey washing water using the greywater system.
